Wendat Village Public School opened in 2012 in the growing community of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Our school has a particularly meaningful connection to the history of this land. Wendat Village is located near the Mantle Site, the site of a large ancestral Wendat community dating to the early 16th century. Our school was named in recognition of the rich history of the area and the Wendat people who lived here centuries before our school community was established. This history gives us both an opportunity and a responsibility to learn about the peoples, histories and perspectives connected to the land on which we learn. Today, we continue to build on our school's story by creating a culture in which student achievement, well-being, belonging, inclusion and student voice are central to our work. We invite you to explore our school website to learn more about our school community.
Our School Community
At Wendat Village, we believe that a strong school is much like a strong village.
A village is built through relationships, shared responsibility and the contributions of many. Students, staff, families and community partners all play an important role in creating the culture of our school.
Our School Community Values
Our School Community Values reflect the values we want our Hawks to demonstrate each day.
Make good choices.
Include everyone.
Do your best work and be your best self.
These expectations guide how we learn together, treat one another, solve problems and contribute to our community.
We believe achievement and character go hand in hand. We want students to develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed while also becoming thoughtful, caring and responsible members of their communities.
Learning at Wendat Village
We hold high expectations for every learner and are committed to responsive, engaging and inclusive instruction.
Our teaching and learning priorities include strong foundations in literacy and mathematics, effective assessment practices, responsive instruction and learning environments designed to support the strengths and needs of all students.
We believe students learn best when they feel a sense of belonging and when their identities, experiences and perspectives are reflected in their learning.
Our educators work collaboratively to continually strengthen instructional practice and create meaningful opportunities for students to think, question, communicate, problem-solve and grow.
Belonging and Well-Being
Student well-being is central to everything we do.
We work intentionally to create classrooms and common spaces where students feel safe, respected and connected. Through community circles, mental-health and well-being initiatives, student voice, leadership opportunities and identity-affirming learning, students develop positive relationships and learn how their actions contribute to the well-being of others.
The diversity of cultures, languages, identities, abilities, traditions and experiences represented within Wendat Village is one of our greatest strengths.
Life as a Wendat Hawk
Learning extends well beyond the classroom.
Students have opportunities to participate in athletics, clubs, STEM, music, the arts, leadership, student voice, cultural learning and community service.
Whether a student finds their place on a team, performing on stage, creating with technology, leading an initiative, helping another student or participating in a club, we want every Hawk to discover opportunities to develop their interests and strengths.
Our goal is not simply for students to attend Wendat Village. We want them to feel that they are an important part of it.
Families as Partners
Families are essential members of our village.
We value strong communication and meaningful partnerships with parents and caregivers. Families contribute to our community through School Council, volunteering, school events, cultural learning, fundraising, conversations with educators and the everyday support they provide to their children.
When families and schools work together, students benefit.
We want every family to know that their perspective is valued and that there is a place for them within the Wendat Village community.
Together, We Are Wendat Village
Our school is strengthened by the people within it.
Every Hawk brings different strengths, experiences, ideas and perspectives to our community.
Together, we strive to create a school where students are supported to achieve, encouraged to lead and inspired to contribute.
